Track Of The Day: Dead Sons – Hangman

‘Remember remember, the 5th of November’ is how Dead Sons announced their latest single ‘Hangman’, and it is certainly not one to forget about! Taken from their forthcoming debut album ‘The Hollers and The Hymns’, the single represents a real coming of age for the band. Their honed sinful indie sound is more US desert than UK city, it’s menacing and delightfully monopolising and is epitomised within ‘Hangman’.

‘The Hollers and The Hymns’ has not received and official release date but we are sure it is on the horizon, we can’t wait any longer.

Wet Nuns have announced their brand new single ‘Why You So Cold?’ will be released on September 10th 2012, along with a full UK tour and festival dates at both Reading & Leeds Festivals and Bestival.

Recorded in Sheffield with Ross Orton (who produced the most recent Arctic Monkeys singles as well as The Kills, Roots Manuva and MIA), the new single is another howling track, following the explosive singles ‘Heaven’s Below’ and ‘Throttle’ that led NME to hail Wet Nuns as one of the top 20 “Bands To Watch for 2012”.

The new single also comes accompanied with a brilliant stop motion video, painstakingly hand-embroidered over six months by artist Toni Buckby.

After their upcoming performances at the Reading and Leeds Festivals and Bestival, Wet Nuns are set to hit the road again in September for a full UK tour. If you haven’t witnessed a Wet Nuns show yet, then you’ve missed something damn awe-inspiring. The two-piece from South Yorkshire have been blowing venues around the UK apart all year with their hell-bent explosion of songs about “women, death and beer”.

Acclaimed performances at The Great Escape Festival, Liverpool Sound City, London’s Borderline for The Fly Magazine, The 100 Club for Converse, and their own headline tour earlier in the year have cemented them as one of the must-see bands to see in 2012.

Wet Nuns new single ‘Why You So Cold’ is released on September 10th 2012 on limited edition 7” vinyl and as a digital download.

Top 5 Humbug-Era Tracks From Arctic Monkeys

Three years go this week, one of our favourite albums of all time was released. Humbug. So we thought that there would be nothing better than unveiling to you, our favourite songs from that ‘twisted and deranged’ Arctic Monkeys era.

5. Don’t Forget Whose Legs You’re On

4. Secret Door

3. Catapult

2. Crying Lightning

1. Dance Little Liar

Track Of The Day: Spiders – Subtle Differences

Well, what a track! We always aim to bring you the best music that you probably haven’t already heard, but we’ve really pulled one out of the bag with Spiders, haven’t we?!

Hailing from one of our favourite music cities in Sheffield, the band have garnered some much deserved local appreciation. Well now it’s time for them to grow, join the Spiders on this journey that will surely take them far.

Dripping with nostalgic influence from Joy Division and The Smiths, yet quirky and modern. ‘Britishness’ is truly evident here!

Track Of The Day: Wet Nuns – Why You So Cold?

Well what can we say? What a track! In our opinion this was the bands most important release so far because following the success of Heavens Below and Throttle the band had to prove they could knock out a top third tune too. And haven’t they just. The intro is teasing, luring you into some heavy blues stomping machine. It’s loud. It’s catchy. It’s heavy. It’s scary. It’s the Wet Nuns.

A manic, malevolent blues stomper which gives your music collection that much needed bit of evil.

They are genuinely the best band to come out of 2012 and it is unbelievable that they aren’t signed. Just give them a record deal eh?

Rob and Alexis have done it again and we can’t wait to see them on tour in September which if you haven’t already, you have to buy tickets for it!
